Rachel Siegel, Cottage Industry

Friday August 7th through Friday August 28th, 2009
1st Friday Reception: August 7th, 2009, 6-9pm

Aprons are worn by many workers, including the printer, the butcher, the baker, the nurse, and the homemaker, and with each job, this protective sheath conforms to fit the work. The apron persists in shape, but reflects styles and changes of the moment. In the context of pushdot studio, an old house that has become a workplace, the domestic and commercial merge. Cottage Industry uses aprons to acknowledge the variety of labor done by women’s hands.

Rachel Siegel lives in Los Angeles and Portland. Her artistic practice investigates social and political concerns as well as feminist themes.
